End Of Year Show Initial Thoughts

Me and Ollie have decided to collaborate on the brief for the end of year show. Today I started to jot down my ideas of what I thought the work needed to achieve as well as what certain things were being looked for in the proposal for the brief.

We need something that will communicate with a creative audience, both student and professional. The work needs to capture a sense of pride and approval for all the students at the college as well as making it clear to professionals that we are a centre of creative arts to be reckoned with.

I brainstormed the things that the college values as well as the disciplines that everyone here practices, regardless of course title. I think that the college needs to be represented as being somewhere that is constantly pushing forward with contemporary and progressive arts, whilst still keeping a sense of heritage and age in the heart of Leeds.

The students all practice certain skills not necessarily of a practical nature but more theoretical, such as creativity, diversity, being outgoing and pushing boundries, as well as planning, management and a strong work ethic. These are the skills that the college prides itself on.

On interesting part of the college for me has always been the mosaic logo. There have been so many petitions to have it changed but none have gone ahead, the college always wants to keep the idea of age. The idea I have had is to take this idea of the mosaic but to present it in a new way which I think will represent the contemporary nature of the college more effectively. The idea of a grid, or pattern, is something that I think every student uses, regardless of course, so it is an idea that works well as a system to represent everyone, it is also the system that makes up the mosaic. I want to use grids inspired by the mosiac to provide the concept for the visuals for the end of year show.

This has been my first test, using a 6 sided shape grid, like a honeycomb, already I think that the effect is really promising.
