Overprint Identity

For my new brief of creating the branding and identity for a new printing press. I thought a good idea would be to set the name straight away to lead on the design work. I've got for the name 'Overprint' I think it represents the idea of a design lead printer well, it has the print terminology aswell as connoting an idea of 'over expectations'.

I really want the identity to in some way represent the mechanics of a printer but still become extremely graphic as this will be my target audience. At first I started to look at the mechanics of a litho press, I wanted to see how a diagram could progress into a logo. I remember while I was at Team Impression one of the most fascinating things for me was seeing all the rollers that transfer the ink down onto the paper.

The design so far has evolved and simplified from this idea of rollers down to represent the three main rollers in each press. The plate cylinder, the offset cylinder and the impression cylinder. These are the three main components which create the printing method unique to offset lithography and so I feel they work effectively as a mark.
