Ideas For Briefs

I have been thinking over christmas about the themes and the issues that I would like to dea with in my FMP. I feel like the the last term the briefs I took on were on a whole fairly corporate, they were solving problems for companies and organisations that I had no real interest in outside of the brief. In my FMP I feel much more excited about taking on challenges and briefs that are self initiated and deal with some of the issues I am more personally interested in. So far these are my initial ideas:

Brief one: Educational Zines - I am always fascinated about learning new things, usually to do with maths and physics, I find myself trawling the internet reading articles and watching videos, fascinated by the things these disciplins are discovering. However I feel that learning about these things is made hard for and audience of people my age due to the information out there being covered in non-understandable jargon or in visual forms that are totally un-engaging. I think that the zine could work as a great format to communicate the ideas behind some of these theories and get more people m age interested in them. The aim is to make learning look fashionable so that people will engage with it.

Brief two: Compilation - my passion for music has grown so much over the past few years due to me being much more involved with the music scene by playing with my band. I always love to hear compilations that people are putting together, it is a great way of getting new bands out there and getting them to talk to one another. However they are often ruined by very cheap and unconsidered packaging. I would like to design, produce and release my own compilation of new bands I am finding exciting.

Brief three: Pseudoscience - while trying to research some quantum theory recently I came across a set of videos that at first glance were fascinating. They were making a scientific link between the observation problem of electrons and human consciousness. At first the idea seemed revolutionary to me but after further research I discovered these videos were made members of a very dubious New Age movement. I felt completely frauded and after delving deeper into the subject I found out that thousands of people are being fooled by these organisations trying to attatch science to religious style beliefs. This is called pseudoscience and it is seriously tarnishing the reputation of true science. I would like to develop a campaign attacking pseudoscience.

Brief four: Atheism - Richard Dawkings has recently started the "OUT" campaign, encouraging atheists to be proud to show their objection to organised religion. I think that it is a really great idea however I don't think that the current design work of the campaign is working effectively, especially to communicate with a younger audience, who are perhaps some of the most important people to reach with this campaign. I would like to rebrand the Out campaign to communicate more effectively with the younger audience.
